About the Family Album

The Family Album MediaApplet is a shareware program which will read GEDCOM genealogy files (*.ged) and display them over the Internet. The applet also comes with a program which will modify GEDCOM files, allowing the user to include pictures or written histories related to the names in the file in the display created by the Family Album applet. Any person in the file for whom pictures or histories have been included will appear with a "{P}" and/or a "{T} " after their name in the family tree and the appropriate buttons will appear in the Information Window. The registered version of the program includes special software for easily and quickly adding picture and text files to your own genealogy files. NOTE: Your *.ged files will not actually be altered, but instead the modified files are saved separately, with a different file extension (*.med).

Due to the security constraints in the Java 1.02, the applet cannot read the genealogy files through a firewall. This means anyone behind a security firewall cannot see your GED or MED files. For this reason I have developed a way to convert *.ged (or modified *.med) files into a format which the applet can access through a firewall. The registered version of the program includes a simple way to perform this conversion so you can both use the applet from behind a firewall, and allow people behind a firewall to see your files.

The unregistered version of this software is shareware and may be copied and transferred in its entirety for the purpose of trial and evaluation by other users.  To obtain a copy of the shareware version, you can contact gpierce@nail.com
